A tackle industry outsiders view on AFTA and the Tackle Industry - 20 August 2011
The Fishing Industry Well, what I have learnt this week about an industry that must have been around before Jesus was born, an industry that is both traditionalist and has exciting new and innovative products, is governed by an old boys group.  Bless them, they are scared of new technology but embrace it only when it suits them, like a new, sleek reel or rod they salivate but if you mention the word “Internet” or “web business” they put their fingers up in a cross formation ready to call in the witch hunt and burn you at the stake. I have to say... Read More
AFTA Trade Show 2011 - 17 August 2011
I have just finished a very interesting trip to the Gold Coast for the 2011 AFTA Trade Show to try and secure some more stock for Phat Fish. We started our little expedition with AFTA ABT Pro-Am (I know lots of acumens!!) bream comp where I was partnered up with Scott Butler who I must say is a great guy and one hell of a good fisherman. We hit the water at 6.30am in search of a bag of big bream. It was something new for me to fish the cannels of the Gold Coast. But somehow I managed to get 2 bream in the boat before Scott and then followed by a couple of flathead. I did hear Scott say... Read More

Phatfish Blog 2 - 17 July 2011
Well the site has been up and running now for a few weeks and has already received some orders.  I am looking to introduce new products and ideas to grow the range and inspire fellow fishers. Over the school holidays, I managed to take a family break to Cairns and Port Douglas and of course I had chance to have a fish. Our first fishing trip was when I took the boys out on a small hire pontoon on the Port Douglas River. After a slow trip up the river (well, that is what a 9.9hp engine only allows) we tried the area in the First Creek (got to love the name). We fished... Read More
Phatfish Blog - 14 June 2011
Welcome to the Phat Fish blog. My name is Brendon Purdom, my passion and love of fishing started at a very young age, my Mum and Dad would always send me out to catch a trout for friends and family who were visiting our property at the age of seven.  I would always come back with a nice sized trout from the local river, this I’m afraid turned me into a self confessed fishing tragic.  Today, I love to fish for many species from bream and flathead in the estuaries of Southern NSW to Victoria, as well as chasing trout in both Victoria and NSW. Having travelled with work... Read More
